Need for CIES Consortium
Hitherto, the integrated electronic technologies have made a large contribution to the energy saving. However, as we enter the era of nanotechnology, due to the increase in the number of devices per chip caused by the aggressive scaling of semiconductor integrated circuits, we are now coming up against rapid increase of power consumption (Power wall).
Hierarchical supply chains with technological seeds and needs have been expanding year by year. As a result, it has become much more difficult to create the innovative technologies under the conventional one-to-one industryacademia collaborative research (Performance wall).
At this center, to overcome these serious issues, we have developed and built a new system to establish a co-creative field of many-to-many cooperative forum where researchers from different fields can work together. In particular, we build a system to allow companies to participate in the center’s operations to contribute to prompt decision making, a system for the storage, share and utilization of intellectual properties to promote its use by businesses, a system for the education as well as reforming of current personnel systems, and a system for using common facilities. Furthermore, we advance the cultivation of human resources and the education of students through industry-academia collaborations.
In this way, we promote industry-academia joint researches, national projects and community-based cooperation projects in an integrated manner to realize a sustainable development of the center by drawing in companies from all over the world, covering a wide range of fields from materials to devices and systems, and by forming many-to-many type co-creation field through the university, where the academia has its mission to constantly produce new seeds of topics. Furthermore, we aim to contribute to the recovery of the Tohoku region by working together with local governments (Miyagi Prefectural Government, Sendai City, Iwate Prefecture, etc.) to promote the economical effects brought by this research activities under the industry-academic alliance.
